What is WHOIS?
WHOIS is a common service between registries (e.g. Nominet and AFNIC), and registrars (like OVHcloud). It enables users to search registry databases, and contains information on domain name owners, administrators and technical contacts.
As a registrar, OVHcloud has already had a personal information masking service for a long time, in compliance with all GDPR regulations.
When registering a domain name, you can only be contacted using a contact form to preserve your personal information.
Your questions answered:
How do I use WHOIS?
When using our OVHcloud WHOIS service, simply type the name of the domain you would like to find information for in the search bar.
How do I read WHOIS?
Information about a domain name is organised as a list. Simply browse this list to find the information you are looking for. For example, if you are looking for a domain name registrar, look for “Registrar URL:”. You can also check the domain expiry date by looking for: “Registry Expiry Date:”.
How do I hide a domain name’s WHOIS?
Your personal information relating to your domain name is systematically protected at OVHcloud. If someone wants information about your domain, you can stay connected by sending messages from a generic email address.
How do I configure a domain name’s WHOIS?
At OVHcloud, your WHOIS is automatically configured by default. You don’t have to worry about setting it up or managing it.
How do I update WHOIS information at OVHcloud?
Simply go to the OVHcloud Control Panel. In the “Domain name” section, select the domain you would like to update the information for. Next, go to the “Administration” section for this domain and modify the information that needs to be updated.
