Register a .bzh domain name
Marking your affiliation with Brittany with a .bzh domain name is essential if you want to set up shop there. Its inhabitants are very attached to their culture and local craftsmanship. The .bzh extension is therefore an excellent way to show your proximity to Breton internet users.
About the .bzh extension
The extension takes its name from the abbreviation of the word ‘Breizh’, meaning ‘Brittany’ in the Breton language. Although Breton speakers are rare, they are still very active and attached to the brands and products of their region.
In 2004, the www.bzh association was granted its own .bzh extension by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). This registration was made possible thanks to Christian Ménard. At the time, he was a member of the French parliament for Finistère and supported the regional council of Brittany.
As a registry for the .bzh extension, the www.bzh association regulates the management of Breton domain name registrations. It is, however, supported by the French Association for Internet Names and Cooperation (AFNIC), which manages internet domains at a national level.
These two organisations are working with ICANN to ensure that the extension is used correctly. It must be used exclusively by users that actually promote Brittany on their website.
Why choose a .bzh domain name?
The .bzh extension is popular across all departments in the Brittany region. From Finistère to Côtes-d'Armor, Morbihan to Ille-et-Vilaine, more than 10,000 sites are hosted under this domain.
With it, the holders of a .bzh domain name can use their URL to highlight their local expertise, products and culture.
This extension is aimed at anyone wishing to show their attachment to Brittany, in France or internationally. A .bzh domain name authenticates the use of the Breton language on your website. It also certifies the sale of Breton products, whatever country you’re based in. It therefore boosts your local SEO ranking and your online reputation.
